Reference Checks
All job candidates applying for a staff position at Indiana University are subject to reference checks, in addition to background checks. Reference checks should be completed for both external and internal candidates.
The job offer approval process in TAM will now require an attestation that a reference check has been completed. The hiring committee will need to inform DSAHR/Payroll Coordinator that this has been completed and the name of the person who completed it.
External Candidates: An offer for employment can be extended contingent upon the successful results of the reference checks. The hiring department is responsible for completing these reference checks.
Internal Candidates: Current IU employees being hired by another unit or department are subject to internal reference checks. An offer for employment cannot be extended until the reference checks have been completed. The hiring department is responsible for coordinating a reference check with the existing department.
Use this form to request a new job posting. When you have selected the applicant you want to hire, update the dispositions in TAM and submit the New Hire form.
Use this form when you are ready to hire a job applicant. A full-time (appointed) hire must come from an existing job posting. Use the Job Postings form if you need to create a new job posting for a vacant position. Part-time hires do not require a job posting, but if one exists you must hire applicants from that posting. If one does not exist, please have the applicant use the Employment App form and attach it to this form.

Use this form to submit payroll requests such as changing the funding account number for an employee, terminations, correct a work area, add a task to an existing part-time employee, or request additional pay. Please use the comments field to provide context such as the reason an employee is being terminated or justification for additional pay.
If you are adding a new pay rate and task for a part-time employee who will have multiple pay rates, use the New Hire form.
Please note that at present, requests for moving supplemental funds for incoming employees are restricted to candidates that are Director level or higher.
If you have a circumstance that you feel would warrant an exception to the present policy, please work with your AVP to discuss the matter.
REMINDER: Per IU’s Driving Privileges policy, all employees (including part-time students) wishing to drive a university vehicle or operate their own vehicle on university business must complete a Motor Vehicle Records Check.
