Action plans are assigned to students who are found responsible for violating university regulations. Action plans may include educational opportunities within one or more of the five pillars:
Learn from your mistake
Educational pillar
Can include warnings, disciplinary probation, suspension, or expulsion.
Knowledge pillar
Can include educational seminars, bulletin board creation, academic integrity or copyright seminars, and other learning experiences. This pillar focuses on the knowledge from community members on campus about specific behaviors that caused a moment of incongruence.
Restorative pillar
Can include restitution, letter of apology, mediation, community service, and topical presentations. This pillar focuses on restorative justice-related activities that are designed to “give back” to the person and/or community affected by the behavior.
Reflective pillar
Can include reflection papers, closure meetings, and potential meetings with an impacted party. This pillar focuses on self reflection on one’s actions and the impact of those actions on others.
Wellness pillar
Can include alcohol/drug education or assessment, anger management, and off-campus counseling. This pillar focuses on promoting the well-being of a student, especially those who might want emotional support on or off campus.
Actions, not sanctions
Unlike sanctions, which imply punishment, authority, or a loss of reward, action plans promote partnership and student learning. All action plans are intended to educate and to help you realign with institutional values.
Seminars and intervention programs
Substance Use Intervention Services
If you have been involved in a minor alcohol-related incident, you may be referred to Substance Use Intervention Services, where you can review the situation, rethink your actions, and plan for a future free of code violations.
Academic Integrity Seminar
If you are found responsible for academic misconduct, you may be referred to the Academic Integrity Seminar, an 8-hour, intensive experience designed to educate you on the importance of academic integrity and how you can make sure you are being honest in your work.
Digital Millennial Copyright Act (DMCA) Seminar
If you file share or download restricted/copyrighted material, you are subject to losing your internet privileges on and off campus through the IU Secure or eduroam network. In order to regain access, you will be required to complete the Digital Millennial Copyright Act (DMCA) Seminar on an assigned date and time.
