The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life (OSFL) at Indiana University will be assessing a Greek Fee to individual members of all officially recognized Greek organizations on campus regardless of council affiliation. This fee will be charged to individual students’ Bursar accounts based on sorority and fraternity membership.
The fee will supplement the funds that Indiana University already dedicates towards the members of sorority and fraternity life. OSFL will be using these funds towards the following:
Educational programs
Leadership development opportunities
Prevention and wellness programming
Staff support from the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life

Chapters may apply for funding from the Greek Funding Advisory Board to support their programming initiatives, as well as additional leadership development opportunities for their members.
Fee Amounts
Members of Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association chapters will be charged $50/semester.
Members of Multicultural Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council chapters will be charged $30/semester.
All chapters are still responsible for paying council dues.
This fee is an expectation for all members since their organizations receive additional benefits and support from the university beyond other self-governing student organizations that have selective membership processes.
Note: During the Fall 2023 semester, the Greek Community Fee will show up as two lines in your bursar bill.
During the Fall semester, the Greek Fee will be billed to returning members in August and to new members in November.
During the Spring semester, the Greek Fee will be billed to returning members in December and to new members in March.
In years prior, the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life was reliant on councils charging dues to members to pay for advising support and assistance, as well as payment for leadership development programs, conferences and the annual Greek awards programming. By directly paying for fees and administering funds from the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life, the university will have much more oversight of these funds and where the money is spent. This will help ensure that funds are not abused. The office is committed to being transparent by tracking the use of these funds internally and sharing how these funds are spent annually with the campus and community stakeholders.
OSFL understands that there are situations where members are facing financial hardship or have other specific, extenuating circumstances or needs that may impact their ability to pay the Greek Fee. In these instances, members of the Sorority and Fraternity Community may submit a Student Life Fee Waiver request to apply for a Greek Fee Waiver.
Greek Fee Waiver Requests for the 2024-2025 academic year must be submitted by the following deadlines in order to be considered:
November 1, 2024 – Fall 2024 Returning Members
December 1, 2024 – Fall 2024 New Members
March 1, 2025 – Spring 2025 Returning Members
May 1, 2025 – Spring 2025 New Members
Fee waiver applicants will be notified via email after the committee has reviewed their application and reached a final decision. Please note that all fee waiver requests may not be granted.
Students who have graduated or resigned membership from their organization should not submit the Fee Waiver Request form. Instead, they should complete the following beINvolved form to request the Greek Fee be removed from their bursar bill. Any requests for removal related to graduation or resignation of membership that are submitted to the Office of Student Life Fee Waiver Request Form will not be processed.
