Below is a list of event dates and deadlines for chapter leaders, advisors, and prospective members to be aware of during the 2024–2025 academic year. Information will be added and/or updated throughout the year.
Important Dates for Sororities and Fraternities
AUGUST 2024
Information about the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life Awards and Assessment Program can be found on our website.
All chapter presidents and advisors should plan to attend the Fall 2024 virtual meeting where OSFL will provide an overview of the OSFL Recognition Policy, Social Events Policy, and University Recognized Housing Policy. All organizations must send a representative to the policy meeting and should contact their Chapter Coach to schedule a re-registration meeting. Contact osfl@indiana.edu with questions.
Information regarding the Greek Fee is available on our website, and will be shared with Chapter Presidents in meetings with Chapter Coaches.
Housed Greek Organizations must update their live-in rosters in Teams by August 23. Instructions for how to do so will be provided to Chapter Presidents and Chapter Advisors for Housed Greek Organizations. If you have questions, please email osfl@indiana.edu.
As outlined in the University Recognized Housing Policy, Greek organizations whose members reside in “University Recognized Housing” must submit proof of their General Liability insurance policy, which must meet the terms identified in the University Recognized Housing Policy, to OSFL. Greek organizations may not register and host events until this documentation is submitted to OSFL. Documentation can be sent to osfl@indiana.edu.
The house corporation board president or their representative must submit the University Recognized Housing Policy Acknowledgement Form. This must be submitted before an organization can be a fully registered student organization. Greek organizations may not register and host events until this documentation is submitted to OSFL. New live-in advisors and house directors should plan to attend this training where we will provide an overview of OSFL policies, initiatives, student support, and campus resources. Meeting details will be sent directly to live-in advisors and house directors. If you are a live-in advisor or House Director and are not receiving emails from OSFL, please reach out to osfl@indiana.edu.
Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council Risk Management Officers will review OSFL Social Events Policy and strategies for bystander intervention, along with their National Organization Policy to create a Risk Management PowerPoint for their chapter presentation on safe and effective Event Monitors. Registration for this training will open August 1, 2024.
Meeting with representatives from Greek Housed Organizations to review housing expectations, health and safety requirements, and campus resources specific for housed organizations. Meeting information will be sent directly to housed organizations. Contact osfl@indiana.edu with questions.
All social events scheduled to occur between August 29– September 1 are due on Sunday, August 25 by 11:59 p.m.
SEPTEMBER 2024
Any organizations interested in hosting a high-profile performer during the fall semester and/or an event with over 500 must submit an interest form by September 1. This form will initiate the campus space reservation planning process. All contracts should not be signed until after the initial planning meeting.
Chapter Presidents must complete the re-registration process on BeINvolved and meet with their Chapter Coach and Chapter Advisor to review OSFL and SILC policies prior to September 1. Organizations cannot register social events until they are a fully registered student organization. Information about OSFL policies can be viewed on our website.
All Greek Organizations that are participating in New Member Education and Intake for the Fall 2024 semester must complete the OSFL Intent for New Member Intake and Education.
Greek Organizations will be asked to upload a PDF of their education plan and a detailed timeline of the education. As stated in the OSFL Recognition Policy, new member education/intake processes are limited to six weeks. All new members must be initiated at the end of the process.

The New Member and Intake Coordinator Training is for chapter officers serving as the New Member Educator and Intake Coordinator for their chapters. Chapter officers will gain the skills and education to create safe, fun, and inclusive events free of hazing. Question about New Member Educator and Intake Coordinator Training should be directed to Samantha Robinson, Senior Assistant Director for Standards and Accountability, samcrobi@iu.edu.

The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life is hosting Emerging Leaders: Letters Today, Leaders Tomorrow on September 14, 2024. This retreat is being designed and developed by the OSFL staff to empower, encourage, and give tangible leadership skills to members of the sorority and fraternity community to make positive change within their organization, council, and the IU community.

Multicultural Greek Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council executive board officers will attend the Accountability and Values Workshop to enhance organization knowledge of standards through creating valuable experiences. This training will teach officers effective ways to handle chapter issues through their accountability process. Registration will open August 15.
Neophyte Retreat for Spring 2024 Neophytes and new members will be held on September 22, 2024.

National Hazing Prevention Week is an opportunity to focus attention on hazing behavior and how hazing negatively affects groups and the people involved. Look for related events and activities throughout the week like the Talk & Chalk event below, then learn more by visiting the Hazing Prevention webpage and take steps throughout the year to report hazing-related behaviors.

The SFL Judicial Board is comprised of undergraduate sorority and fraternity students, representing the four governing councils. Individuals of the Judicial Board review low-level conduct matters and sorority and fraternity organization misconduct that occur on or off Indiana University property.
As designated by the Office of Student Conduct, the board meets with sorority and fraternity organizations who have alleged policy violations through the university’s educational conduct process to determine responsibility for code violations and develop individualized action plans.
Chapter presidents, advisors, house directors, live-in advisors, and council officers should plan to attend the OSFL Homecoming meeting in preparation for IU Homecoming 2024. The Wellness Summit will focus on building cultures supportive of mental health and wellness within sororities and fraternities. The Wellness Summit will be an especially valuable opportunity for students serving as Mental Health Chairs or on mental health committees.

OSFL’s Greek Leadership Academy will take place on January 25, 2025. During GLA, chapter leaders from all four councils will engage in community building, leadership development, and goal setting.
