Free legal advice and services

We provide free, confidential legal advice and services for IU Bloomington students. We’ll even represent you in court for civil (non-criminal) cases.

These services are covered by your student activity fee, so let us help. Our licensed attorneys and legal interns are experienced in handling a variety of legal matters including, but not limited to:

Representation in court

Our attorneys can represent you in civil cases, such as landlord disputes, car accident cases, name and gender changes, and financial issues. Our advice and representation are covered by your student activity fee, but court fees are not.

Criminal charges

We can’t represent you in a criminal case, but we can advise you on the charges against you, explain pretrial diversion, and, if necessary, connect you with a local defense attorney. If you’re eligible, we can also help expunge your record.

Legal education

Preventative legal education is a big part of what we do. We publish brochures covering legal issues pertinent to student life and make presentations to residence halls, fraternity and sorority houses, culture centers, and other student services offices and groups throughout campus to help students understand their rights and responsibilities, and to guide them in making good decisions.
