Being suspended does not revoke your admission to Indiana University, however, it may impact your admission to a specific college, school or program.
Being expelled does revoke your admission to Indiana University. Both suspension and expulsion impact your access to university resources and services, for example:
You forfeit tuition, fees and grades (if applicable) for the semester in which you are suspended.
You cannot attend or register for classes here or at any other IU campus.
You cannot live in IU residence halls.
You could lose your financial aid or scholarship packages.
You will be blocked from your IU email account.
Consequences of suspension and expulsion
During the period of suspension, the Dean of Students places students who are suspended on the university checklist. When your suspension is over, you are removed from the checklist. Students who are expelled remain permanently on the checklist.

During a period of suspension you cannot register for classes on the IU Bloomington campus or any other IU campus.
Your registration privileges will be reinstated the first business day after your suspension ends. However, if you are on the university checklist for any other reasons (for example, unresolved disciplinary matters, unpaid tuition, overdue parking fines, or poor academic performance), you will need to resolve those matters before you can register for classes.
If you choose to take classes from another non-IU campus, contact your academic advisor—when not under suspension—to determine if your credits will transfer. Transferring credits to IU is dependent on a variety of factors, including what courses they are, where they are being transferred, and what degree requirements they might fulfill for you. Students who are expelled are permanently ineligible to register for any classes, on any IU campuses.
When you are suspended, a notation is placed on your transcript that you are suspended from Indiana University.
All activities through the Registrar’s Office are restricted during your suspension, including the ability to request an official transcript. However, for the purposes of transferring to another college or university, an exception is usually granted.
If you would like to request a transcript for the purposes of transferring to another college or university, contact the Office of Student Conduct.
When your suspension ends, the notation is removed from your transcript, and access to the registrar is reinstated.
If you are expelled, a notation of expulsion is permanently placed on your transcript. A request for your transcript may be made. To make that request, contact the Office of Student Conduct.
Students who are suspended or expelled forfeit tuition, fees, and grades (if applicable) for the semester in which they are suspended or expelled. If you have questions concerning your student account, please contact Student Central.
Because students who live in IU residence halls must be enrolled in classes, students who are on suspension cannot live in IU residence halls. Information about cancelling your housing contract can be found on the Residential Programs and Services site.
If you live in a fraternity or sorority house, you should contact your national headquarters or house corporation to find out if you have to be enrolled in classes to live in your chapter house.
Students who are suspended or expelled do not have access to any IU technology accounts, including IU email. The accounts will be reinstated once a suspended student is successfully reinstated. The accounts are permanently disabled for students who are expelled.
Periods of suspension are considered a separation between the student and the university. As such, suspended students do not have access to any university services for the duration of the suspension. This includes, but is not limited to: university counseling or advising services, general academic advising appointments, and engaging with faculty about academic work. Students who are suspended or expelled do not have access to university services, but may contact the Office of Student Conduct and the Student Advocates Office with questions.
Students who are suspended or expelled may use the SRSC as a member of the public by purchasing a day pass. If a campus trespass accompanies the suspension or expulsion, the SRSC may not be accessed as it is on campus.
