What to expect when meeting with a Care Coordinator
Find out more about what to expect before, during, and after your meeting with a Care Coordinator below.
- We will always try to prioritize your first meeting to be as soon as we can. If you need more immediate assistance, we can direct you towards specific resources to get you through until your initial meeting.
- Prior to your meeting with a Care Coordinator, you will receive an email containing a pre-meeting questionnaire. We ask that you complete this prior to your initial meeting so that we can get to know you a bit better.
- Some things we may talk about are time management, your satisfaction with your college experience, wellness strategies, barriers to accessing resources, whether school is the best fit for you right now, motivation for making changes, and managing expectations for yourself and others.
- Our initial meeting is time for us to learn about what your goals are, what concerns you have, and any obstacles you're facing.
- We will work together to identify appropriate resources for your concerns, how to navigate any potential barriers to accessing them, and strategize next steps.
- We'll schedule a follow-up meeting to check in about how you're doing and whether the resources we've identified have been successful.
- We will continue to work together until we have resolved as many concerns as we can. We'll take things one step at a time.
- We will send you a follow-up email containing a summary of what we discussed in our meeting and the sources we talked about.
- We will have a follow-up meeting to see if you've accessed any of the resources, how they did or didn't meet your needs, and if your needs have changed since our last meeting.
- On average, students schedule one to two follow-up meetings. However, the number of meetings can be customized to your needs and concerns.
- If your needs change in any capacity, you are more than welcome to reach out to the Student Care and Resource Center or submit another Care Referral to meet with a Care Coordinator again and reassess your needs.
Concerned about a student?
Start with this quick reference guide for recognizing, responding to, and referring students in distress.
A guide for supporting students in distressOutreach and training
Members of the Care Team are available to provide education and training to Indiana University students, staff, and faculty about what we do, how we function and how we can help.
Outcomes of our presentation include:
- How to identify a student in distress
- How to appropriately communicate with someone about whom you are concerned
- Information about how the Care Team functions
- What resources are available to support students
If there is a more specific subject you would like the Care Team to speak to your student group, campus organization, office, or department about, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We will be more than happy to discuss outreach and education possibilities with you and/or refer you to the most appropriate resource for that topic.

The Care Team is comprised of many professionals from across campus and typically it is our Care Coordinators who respond to Care Referrals. They work directly with students identified as needing caring outreach, a listening ear, and interventions and referrals based on their specific needs.
