Create a Student Org

Create your own student organization

If you are enrolled at Indiana University Bloomington, you can start a registered Self-Governed Student Organization by following the steps and policies on this page. University departments may request the creation of a new University Student Organization by submitting the Request a USO form.

But first, see if your organization already exists. You can browse organizations by category or search for specific words or phrases on beINvolved, IU’s comprehensive student involvement database. If your idea isn’t already out there, keep reading.

Benefits for registered student organizations

Student groups are not required to be registered with Student Involvement and Leadership. However, there are many benefits that go along with being registered.

  • Reserve space on campus for free
  • Request a network ID and email address for your organization
  • Apply for office space in the IMU
  • Apply for funds
  • Reserve a table for the Student Involvement Fair
  • Apply for and be recognized at the annual Student Organization Awards
  • Use the beINvolved system for recruitment and networking
  • Drop in for advising with Student Involvement and Leadership staff
  • Participate in leadership development courses, retreats, and programs offered through LEAD IU and the Hoosier Leadership Program

Start a club sport

Club sports are organized by students and membership is open to the public, as long as students comprise the majority of the club’s membership. To start a new club sport or re-activate an inactive club sport, call 812-855-2371 or email clubsprt@iu.edu.
