Dr. Hylton serves as the Vice Provost for Student Life at Indiana University Bloomington, where he provides strategic vision and executive leadership for more than 35 departments within the Office of Student Life. In this role, he aligns Student Life functions to foster a supportive and successful environment for students, with a clear focus on their overall well-being and academic achievement.
With a wealth of experience in student affairs, Dr. Hylton previously served as Senior Vice President for Student Life at Kent State University, where he led multiple senior-level student affairs functions. He has also held various senior positions at Kent State and the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, making him an expert in creating programs that enhance student experiences across diverse institutions.
Dr. Hylton holds a Bachelor’s degree from Morgan State University, a Master’s degree from Ohio University, and a Doctoral degree from Morgan State University. He has also completed the prestigious Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University. His academic background, combined with his extensive experience, uniquely positions him as a thought leader in the field of student life.
An active participant in national higher education organizations, Dr. Hylton has held numerous leadership roles within NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) and the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU). He has received several notable awards, including the NASPA Pillar of the Profession award, the ACPA Diamond Honoree award, Crain’s Cleveland 40 Under 40, and the Scott Goodnight Award for Outstanding Senior Student Life Professional from NASPA Region IV-East.
Passionate about supporting students, Dr. Hylton is personally invested in co-constructing the educational experience with students. He believes that student success is deeply connected to achievement and holistic well-being and strives to create a lasting positive impact on the students he serves.
